STANDING TALL: CHORAL MUSIC FOR MENTAL HEALTH
The NOVA Women's Choral Project, formerly based in Massachusetts, presented Standing Tall: Choral Music for Mental Health on Sunday, October 23rd at 3:00 pm in the Sanctuary of Grace Episcopal in Newton. This program was performed as a means to combat the stigma that often surrounds mental health and mental illness, with the support of the Newton Cultural Council in this project.
This program acknowledges the stress, anxiety, and depression that many in our community face every day. Yet, it also uses choral music as a way to emphasize our strength as individuals, the strength found in our community, and the fact that we are not alone.
There was no charge to attend this performance; however, if attendees wanted to make a donation to NOVA, a percentage of the proceeds from this performance was donated to NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness,) who were in attendance at the concert to share mental health resources available in the Greater Boston area.
